Q. Do you offer the brand new full version of the Child Abuse/Mandated Reporter training that was updated/changed as of September 2025?- A. Yes, we do. Simply click here to go to our Course Catalog (Courses Available page) and choose the Child Abuse Workshop course. It is the 2025 – 2026 version currently required by the NYSED.
Q. Do you offer the Addendum?- A. Absolutely. If you took any previous Child Abuse Prevention training with us, then simply send us an email at help@nysedworkshop.com and we will get back to you quickly with registration information. If you believe you took your previous Child Abuse training elsewhere, then please continue reading by skipping to the section entitled “What if I took my Child Abuse Prevention training with a different provider?” to find out how to proceed.
Q. What is the “Addendum?”- A. The “Addendum” is also known as a “quick 15-minute addendum” that was added to the Child Abuse Identification and Reporting” workshop. This officially went into effect on September 1, 2025.
Q. Why do I have to take the addendum, especially if I just took the “NEW UPDATED” Mandated Reporter training (aka the Identification and Reporting of Child Abuse, Maltreatment and Neglect” workshop) just a few months ago?-
A. The answer to that is a bit above our pay grade, as they say. We are an approved provider
that must comply with what the New York State Education Department (NYSED) dictates based on changes
in the law. In this case, the details of these changes in the law are detailed below:
Chapter 25 of the Laws of 2024 amended Social Services Law § 413 to require additional training to include protocols and guidance on identifying abused or maltreated children with intellectual or developmental disabilities (ID/D) within the New York State Mandated Identification and Reporting of Child Abuse and Maltreatment/Neglect coursework. This law requires that mandated reporters, including those who have previously undergone the current training, complete the updated training curriculum by November 17, 2026. If you have completed an approved provider Mandated Reporter Training between 12/1/2022 and 8/31/2025 you will need additional information in order to be in full compliance with the recent changes in the law. Approved providers were required to begin offering updated mandated reporter training workshops to include the new requirements outlined in Chapter 25 of the Laws of 2024 on September 1, 2025.
Q. What was the “NEW UPDATED” version that people took before September 1, 2025 (also known as “New Program)?-
A. Chapter 56 of the Laws of 2021 amended Social Services Law § 413 to require additional training to
include protocols to reduce implicit bias in decision-making processes, strategies for identifying
adverse childhood experiences, and guidelines to assist in recognizing signs of abuse or maltreatment
while interacting virtually within the New York State Mandated Identification and Reporting of Child Abuse
and Maltreatment/Neglect coursework. This law required that mandated reporters, including those who have
previously undergone the current training, completed the updated training curriculum by April 1, 2025.
The NEWEST version further amended this requirement YET AGAIN, as of September 01, 2025. Thus, if you completed Mandated Reporter Training between 11/1/2022 and 8/31/2025, you may complete this NEW 15-minute “Addendum” which includes the additional topic of child abuse pertaining to those with intellectual or developmental disabilities (ID/D).
Q. How do I get the Addendum?- A. As aforementioned, if you took your training with us, then just send us an email requesting the addendum. The NYSED has stated that everyone must take their addendum training with the same provider that provided them with their previous Child Abuse Prevention workshop. So, providers cannot simply offer the addendum to just anyone. The NYSED requires that providers must establish proof that the previous version of the training was taken before simply offering the addendum (which is just one part of the full workshop).
Q. What if I took my Child Abuse Prevention training with a different provider but I want to take it with your organization?-
A. There are many reasons why you may not want to or may not be able to take your addendum training with
the same provider of your previous training. We have been informed by customers that many other providers
are in violation of the new laws and ARE NOT actually offering the addendum, but instead are making their
previous clients take the entire two-hour course all over again and inserting the addendum and many
providers are charging full price! Although back in June of 2025, that is what the NYSED told all
providers to do, they subsequently changed that and now only require the addendum as a stand-alone module.
If your previous provider has contacted you or has informed you that you must repeat the entire two-hour course, we encourage you to send us an email with the details (your name, number and email, plus the provider’s name and any correspondence you have from them instructing you to repeat the whole course or stating that they do not offer just the addendum). If your previous provider is not responding to your emails and/or calls, has gone out of business, does not offer the training in a way that suits your needs, or is in violation of the law, we can provide the addendum to you as required by the NYSED.
As stated above, just send us an email. We will need a copy of your previous certificate or, if you searched and cannot find that anywhere, a screenshot of your Workshops tab on your TEACH account showing your most recent Child Abuse training date/version.
Non-education professionals do not have TEACH accounts, so we will need some other form of proof.
Q. When did this “mandate” originally get passed into law and who must take this training?-
A. Effective January 1, 1989, Education Law requires certain individuals, when applying initially for
licensure or a limited permit, to provide documentation of having completed two hours of coursework or
training regarding the identification and reporting of child abuse and maltreatment. This, originally,
was a one-time requirement and once taken does not need to be completed again (this part of the law has
been subsequently changed twice now in the last four years). This requirement applies to: Chiropractors,
Dental Hygienists, Dentists, Optometrists, Physicians, Podiatrists, Psychologists, and Registered Nurses.
The Law also includes this training among the requirements for certification or licensure of school
administrators/supervisors, school service personnel, and classroom school teachers. All persons applying
for a provisional or permanent certificate or license valid for administrative or supervisory service,
school service, or classroom teaching service must have completed the two hours of coursework or training.
The list of professions that must take this training has also changed over the years, and includes, but is not limited to:
Certified Behavior Analyst Assistants, Chiropractors, Clergy, Creative Arts Therapists, Day Care Workers, Dental Hygienists, Dentists, Licensed Behavior Analysts, Licensed Clinical Social Workers, Licensed Master Social Workers, Marriage and Family Therapists, Mental Health Counselors, Nurses (various types), Optometrists, Physicians, Podiatrists, Psychoanalysts, Psychologists, Registered Nurses, and Nurse Practitioners.
****School employees (teachers, assistant teachers, administrators, etc.) are also required to take the mandated reporter training to receive certification from the Office of Teaching Initiatives, a division of the New York State Education Department (NYSED).
Q. What is a "subscription"?- A. On our website, a course subscription simply means that your ONE-TIME payment for the workshop/training will give you a full year of access to the course so that you may complete the training at your own pace. You will NOT be charged again. There are NO monthly charges or auto renewals.
Q. How secure is the registration and payment?- A. Your registration information will not be shared with a third party. Your payment information is securely processed by the credit card company and not kept in our records. Your receipt will be automatically emailed directly to you. The NYSED requires your First and Last name on our account registration page. The NYSED does not require middle name/initial.
Q. How many hours do I need to complete for my licensure?- A. Licensing boards have individual requirements. Ensure your compliance by checking directly with the licensing agency of your profession.
Q. Do I need to complete the course in one session?- A. No. You may log off and on anytime. The timer feature maintains time spent on the course and where you left off. Take as long as you need to complete the course.
Q. Is there a test?- A. Yes. Multiple choice quizzes. To enhance the user experience there is a review quiz after each topic section and a final quiz at the end of the course.
Q. How do I receive and submit my proof of completion?- A. Upon completion of the course there are 2 convenient options to receive your official certificate of completion: 1) You may print it, 2) Have it emailed to you. You will also see an option to submit to the NYSED (TEACH) electronically, which is a state requirement for workshops such as DASA. The state does not want you to submit your printed certificate of completion to them.
Am I able to acquire additional copies of my certificate of completion?- A. Yes, by logging back in. A permanent record of completion is maintained. Please note that other providers may charge additional fees for copies of completion certificates.
Q. Does the NYSED (NY State) need a SSN (Social Security Number)?-
A. The New York State Education Department requires that all applicants for professional licensure provide their Federal Social Security Number (SSN).
- For NY non-education professionals (e.g. healthcare professionals) without a SSN, the New York Office of Professions (NYOOP) requires an assigned random, computer generated nine-digit identifier.
More information is available on the New York Office of Professions website (see section on Social Security Numbers):
www.op.nysed.gov/about/general-information-policies
- For NY education professionals (e.g. teachers, etc.) without a SSN, they would have used a Teach Access Number (TAN) on their TEACH account.
Instructions to apply for a TAN on TEACH can be found on the below webpage.
